The question I want to ask today is the following : does French manicure have anything to do with French style ? Is it part of the French chic that people envy us so much in the world?
The first answer is that the French manicure is not French at all.
It was born in the United States in the 1970s. At that time, Hollywood producers and directors were looking to make up their actresses in a somewhat dramatic way by emphasizing the natural features and to make up the nails in a way that would allow them to adapt to all styles. The idea was to no longer have to change the nail polish each time the look was changed.
In response to this expectation, Jeff Pink, a nail polish designer, invented this method of giving shine to the natural appearance of the nail, thus allowing an unlimited association with the different shooting outfits.
He therefore registered this appellation “French manicure” in reference to French elegance, to its timeless and discreet character. But does the French women like the French manicure that much ?
From my point of view, first of all, this technique was invented to push the natural aspect of the nail to the extreme, so from the moment there is an exaggeration of a characteristic, we are not anymore in the natural and in the discretion…
Then, the development of the X industry also helped to break the vision of the glamorous nail that Hollywood producers imagined. Who knows why, many porn actresses do indeed wear the very accentuated French manicure and as a result, it is now automatically associated with a certain vulgarity.
So our advice is, if you want pretty elegant hands:
- prefer a plain nail polish
- or avoid a very wide white part of the nail and adopt it very thin
- and make sure that the white is not too intense by applying a coat of nail polish over it.
So, if you really like elegance and French style, play it subtile ! ^^^ Cheating to embellish the natural, I’m rather favorable, but always with delicacy…. to make it successful.
